Transform Me O Jesus

Transform Me O Jesus….

Transform me into yourself,O Jesus, that I may be a living sacrifice and pleasing to you.I desire to atone at each moment for poor sinners. The sacrifice of my spirit is hidden under the veil of the body;the human eye does not perceive it,and for that reason it is pure and pleasing to You.O my Creator and Father of great mercy,I trust in You,for You are goodness itself.Souls,do not be afraid of God,but trust in Him,for He is good and His mercy is everlasting

O Jesus, how sorry I feel for poor sinners.Jesus, grant them contrition and repentance.Remember Your own sorrowful Passion.I know your Infinite mercy and cannot bear it that a soul that has cost you so much should perish.Jesus, give me the souls of sinners;let your mercy rest upon them.Take everything away from me,but give me souls.I want to become a sacrificial host for sinners.Amen

July~Month of the Precious Blood

July is dedicated to the most precious blood of Jesus

It's your day today!

Devotion to the Precious Blood by Fr.John Hardon

Devotion to the Precious Blood is not a spiritual option, it is a spiritual obligation, and that not only for priests, but for every follower of Christ. I really believe, and I hesitate even saying this, but I really believe that one of the symptoms of modern society (and I would even include, sadly, modern Catholic society) one of the symptoms of a growing, gnawing secularism is the lessening and the weakening of devotion to the Precious Blood. Devotion, as we know, is a composite of three elements: It is first- veneration, it is secondly- invocation, and it is thirdly- imitation. In other words, devotion to the Precious Blood of Christ, the Lamb of God who was slain, is first of all to be veneration on our part, which is a composite of knowledge, love and adoration. We are to study to come to a deeper understanding of what those two – I am afraid for many people – casual words, Precious Blood, really mean.

I found this passage in the oldest document, outside of sacred scripture, from the first century of the Christian era – to be exact, from Pope St. Clement I, dated about 96 A.D. Says Pope Clement:

“Let us fix our gaze on the Blood of Christ and realize how truly precious It is, seeing that it was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world.”

To understand the meaning of the Precious Blood we must (otherwise the mystery will be lost on us), we must get some comprehension of the gravity of sin, of the awfulness of offending God, because it required the Blood of the Son of God to forgive that sin. We are living in an age in which to sin has become fashionable. But we believe that we are here for only a very short time. We further believe that Christ when He told us the way that leads to damnation is broad and many there are who walk that way, that the way that leads to eternal life is narrow and there are few who walk that way. I am watching every syllable I am saying. The Church has never pronounced infallibly on the number lost and the number saved, but she has canonized St. John of the Cross and made him a Doctor of the Church. Says John of the Cross: “I believe that the majority of the human race will be lost.”

This veneration of the Precious Blood, which is the first element in our devotion to the Precious Blood means that we have a deep sensitivity to the awfulness of sin. Sin must be terrible. It must be awful. It must be the most dreadful thing in the universe. Why? Because it cost the living God in human form the shedding of His Blood.

Devotion to the Precious Blood means – beyond veneration which means understanding, grasping and loving, loving Jesus Christ in the shedding of His Blood – it further means that we invoke Christ under the attribute of His Precious Blood. I really wonder, I do. Suppose I picked a thousand Catholics at random, I mean, believing, Churchgoing Catholics and would ask them: What litanies has the Church approved for the universal recitation by the faithful? I honestly doubt if very many out of a thousand would know that one of those litanies is the Litany of the Precious Blood. I thought I would read a few invocations;

“Blood of Christ, Only-Begotten Son of the eternal Father.”

What are we saying? Are we saying that that Blood was the Only Begotten Son of the Eternal Father? Frankly, yes. Because we know that term, Precious Blood, is not just a symbol, not just a title. It identifies that quality of the Only-Begotten Son of the Eternal Father which Christ wants us to constantly have in mind, namely, that the Only-Begotten Son of the Eternal Father suffered. Suffered for us.

“Blood of Christ falling upon the earth in the Agony.”

In the Middle Ages when the faith was stronger than in modern times, even the errors, shall I say, were more respectable? There were those who speculated (talk about a believing age!) those who speculated that maybe, just maybe, when Christ shed His Blood either in the Agony in the Garden or on Calvary, that once the Blood left the Body It was just ordinary blood. In the age of faith, believers speculated about, what was that blood separated from the Body? And the Church infallibly defined: Every drop of Christ’s Blood in the Agony in the Garden, every drop He shed on Calvary, every drop was united hypostatically with the Second Person of the Trinity. Every drop of that Blood was adorable.

“Blood of Christ, Price of our salvation.”

The more I lecture, the more I teach, the more people I deal with, the more I have come to identify two words: love and pain. If one person claims to love someone else, the one who claims to love, infallibly – if there is genuine love – is not only resigned to enduring pain — pain is the proof of love, pain is the price of love. That’s why God became Man: that He might be able to endure pain, especially the pain of draining His Blood out of love for us. May I recommend to all of you to promote the recitation of the litany of the Precious Blood?

Finally, devotion means imitation. In other words, if Christ showed His love for us by the shedding of His Blood, we are to show our love for Him – I mean everything I am saying – we are to show our love for Him by the shedding of our blood. That is what the Church means when she has us say that when Christ offers Himself daily on the altar in the Sacrifice of the Mass, we are told to identify that as our sacrifice – His and ours. He, the Head of the Mystical Body, can no longer suffer, but thank God, we can!

This shedding of blood, I have not tired of repeating since my ordination, that we are living in the most heroic age of martyrs in the history of Christianity. I mean it. Countless millions of Christians who believe in the Precious Blood are proving their love for Him by their sufferings. Many by now in our century have shed and are shedding their blood physically. What a privilege! What a privilege if we were called to shed our blood physically in the Name of, and out of love for Christ!

And I don’t hesitate recommending praying for the gift of martyrdom. But even if it is not God’s Will that we shed our blood for Christ, to manifest our love for Him physically, let’s make sure, absolutely sure, that we let no opportunity go by without shedding our blood spiritually. And that, my friends, no matter what our state of life, no matter what our vocation may be, if we are Christians, we are meant to shed our blood!

“The infinite love of the Savior is announced in His Name, is symbolized in His heart, and is made eloquent in His Blood.” ~St. John XXIII

Become attached in fervor to the devotion to the divine Blood which
softens every heart, and do not fail to turn frequently to the most holy
Mary Immaculate under whose protection it is most helpful to remain.~St.Gaspar

Here we are at the feast of the divine Blood … What a great feast of love
for Jesus is this feast of ours! Yes, let us love Jesus incessantly,
irrevocably, so that we can love him eternally in paradise. To look at
Jesus as he pours out his Blood is an act of religion which helps us do
great work for our own eternal salvation as well as that of our neighbors,
praying in a special way for the success of the missions and for the
apostolic work that is being promoted throughout the Catholic world.
(from St. Gaspar’s Letter 1188 to Luigia del Bufalo, July 3, 1825)

It is, therefore, the divine Blood that will placate the divine eternal Father,
that will purify our hearts and will inebriate us with love for Jesus who
dilexit nos, et lavit nos in Sanguine suo.
(from St. Gaspar’s Letter No. 1214 to Pope Leo XII, July, 29, 1825)

I repeat: let us propagate widely this very important devotion; let us often
meditate on those words: “making peace through the Blood of the Cross both in the heavens and on the earth.” May Jesus be our love.

Let us be filled with confidence in the merits of the Divine Blood, and may it be our mystical armament of defense against Lucifer: “They conquered the dragon by the Blood of the Lamb.”

Oh Lord! when I begin speaking about the divine Blood, I
feel my soul experiencing a special emotion. This is the most tender
attestation of God’s love.  Oh what a treasure this salutary devotion is. I would like to have a thousand tongues to draw every heart tenderly to it, and I wish that my own soul would be totally penetrated with it.

In times of temptation, invoke the Divine Blood

~St.Gaspar

“I adore You, O Precious Blood of Jesus, flower of creation, fruit of virginity, ineffable instrument of the Holy Spirit, and I rejoice at the thought that You came from the drop of virginal blood on which eternal Love impressed its movement; You were assumed by the Word and deified in His person. I am overcome with emotion when I think of Your passing from the Blessed Virgin’s heart into the heart of the Word, and, being vivified by the breath of the Divinity, becoming adorable because You became the Blood of God.”

~St. Albert the Great

“The world can still set itself right and always will be able to, because the voice and Blood of Christ cry out for pity and mercy… Devotion to the Precious Blood is the devotion of our time…It is devotion for all souls, for the whole world.”

~St.John XXIII

“The Precious Blood belongs in an especial manner to men. Much more, therefore, does God invite them to come to its heavenly baths, and receive therein, not only the cleansing of their souls, but the power of a new and amazing life. Every doctrine in theology is a call to the Precious Blood.  Every ceremony in the Church tells of it . . . .  Every supernatural act is a growth of it. Everything that is holy on earth is either a leaf, bud, blossom or fruit of the Blood of Jesus. To its fountains God calls the sinner, that he may be lightened of his burdens. There is no remission of him in anything else.  Only there is his lost sonship to be found. The saints are no less called by God to these invigorating streams. It is out of the Precious Blood that men draw martyrdoms, vocations, celebacies, austerities, heroic charities, and all the magnificent graces of high sanctity.  The secret nourishment of prayer is from those fountains”

~Fr.Faber

“Take caution to see priests only as the dispensers of the Blood of the humble, Immaculate Lamb and overlook the faults you may see in them. A priest is a man and therefore fallible and capable of making mistakes, but this does not prevent him from being the Anointed of the Lord, marked forever with the indelible sign and having the power to consecrate the Body of Christ and administer the sacraments and to preach to the people in the name of God.”

~St.Catherine of Siena

“It is not as severed from Jesus’ Sacred Body that the Precious Blood
is now to be adored and offered, but as It is, at this moment,
within the living Jesus, in heaven and in the Blessed Sacrament.
Therefore, the soul that possesses the Precious Blood
has everything and desires nothing more.
The offering of the Precious Blood is of infinite efficacy.
It begs remission for past sins or rather exacts it;
It is a remedy against future sin;
It returns thanks for all graces general or personal;
It procures help from on high and brings comfort
to the living and the dead.
The practice of offering the Precious Blood is most pleasing to God; because, through It, He is glorified in the most sublime
and excellent manner.
As often as a creature offers the Precious Blood by which it was redeemed, it offers a gift of unequaled and infinite price.”

~St.Mary Magdalene de Pazzi

“By the effusion of his holy blood, [he] has given so great efficacy and strength to the holy sacraments of his church, that when we receive any one of them, we shall be sprinkled and made clean by the virtue of his precious blood.”
~St. John Fisher

“He opened up for us in his most sacred wounds four founts, as a fount of mercy, a fount of peace, a fount of devotion, a fount of love and summons all to quench their thirst there”

~St.Bernard

7855ea4d093ffd08cef216865d5653fd

“My creatures should see and know that I wish nothing but their good,
through the Blood of My only-begotten Son, in which they are washed from
their iniquities. By this Blood they are enabled to know My Truth, how, in
order to give them eternal life, I created them in My image and likeness and re-created them to grace with the Blood of My Son, making them sons of
adoption.”

“Thus, as if drunk with the Blood of the Immaculate Lamb, and clothed in the love of the neighbor, they pass through the Narrow Gate, bathed in the Blood of Christ crucified, and they find themselves in Me, the Sea Pacific, raised from imperfection, far from satiety, and arrived at perfection, satisfied by every good.”

–Revelations to St. Catherine of Siena

St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi, when in ecstasy, once exclaimed: “Every time a creature offers up the Blood by which he was redeemed, he offers a gift of infinite worth, which can be equaled by no other.” God revealed the practice of making this offering to this Saintly Carmelite nun when He complained to her that so little effort is made in this world to disarm His Divine justice against sinners. Acting upon this admonition, she daily offered the Precious Blood fifty times for the living and the dead. She did this with so much fervor that God showed her on different occasions the numerous souls who had thereby been converted or delivered from Purgatory.

At another time when St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi was in ecstasy, she saw all the holy patrons of the city of Florence [accompanied by innumerable other saints], before the throne of God interceding for sinners. Their petitions, however, remained unanswered. Then the guardian Angels of the poor sinners approached, but their prayers likewise remained unheard. Next came the multitudes of the blessed to make intercession for the guilty souls. While imploring God’s mercy, they were intent at the same time upon offering to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood, and on account of the merits of the Divine Blood, their petitions were granted. Ought not these examples incite us to offer the Precious Blood frequently during the day?

Our Lord told Sister Mary of St. Peter: “Ask My Father for as many souls as I shed drops of Blood during My Passion.” By asking for the Precious Blood to be poured out on souls we prevent Its being, as it were, spilled out on the ground in vain. In His mysterious Providence God has put the salvation of others in our hands: we must ask for it, and ask fervently and often.

In the life of St. Dominic we read that on one occasion when he was preaching about the veneration of Mary, he saw the Blessed Virgin sprinkling his devout hearers with the Blood of her Divine Son. Once while the Saint was celebrating Mass, three hundred persons, among them the king and queen, saw the Mother of God, at the elevation of the chalice, pouring the Precious Blood over all present and over the whole Church.

Let us, particularly during Holy Mass, beseech Mary to offer to the Eternal Father the Blood of her Son in the chalice, for the holy Catholic Church, for the conversion of sinners, for the souls in Purgatory and for our various needs. We may enumerate them to her with full confidence, and the greater their number, the better will she be pleased. That which we offer to God in Holy Mass is of infinitely greater value than the gifts for which we ask. God remains our debtor, as it were, so great is the value of the Precious Blood.

St. Gertrude’s writings are replete with most beautiful sentiments concerning the Precious Blood. To St. Mechtilde Our Lord once revealed Himself on the altar, with hands extended and Blood streaming from His Wounds:
“I show these bleeding Wounds to My Father,” He said, “to appease His wrath. He pardons when He sees the Blood.”

Prayer of Offering to Mary

Most Holy Mary, Virgin Mother of God, I am your unworthy servant. Yet moved by your motherly care for me and longing to serve you, I choose you this day to be my Queen, my Advocate, and my Mother. I firmly resolve ever to be devoted to you and to do what I can to encourage others to be devoted to you. My loving Mother, through the Precious Blood of your Son shed for me, I beg you to receive me as your servant forever. Aid me in my actions and beg for me the grace never by thought, word, or deed, to be displeasing in your sight and that of your most holy Son. Remember me, dearest Mother, and do not abandon me at the hour of death. Amen.

The Aspirations

preciousbloodjesus3

Viva, Viva Jesù!

Glory be to Jesus!
Who in bitter pains
Pour’d for me the life-blood
From His sacred veins.

Grace and life eternal
In that Blood I find;
Bless’d be His compassion,
Infinitely kind!

Bless’d through endless ages
Be the precious stream,
Which from endless torment
Doth the world redeem.

There the fainting spirit
Drinks of life her fill;
There, as in a fountain,
Laves herself at will.

O the Blood of Christ!
It soothes the Father’s ire;
Open the gate of heaven,
Quells eternal fire.

Abel’s blood for vengeance
Pleaded to the skies;
But the Blood of Jesus
For our pardon cries.

Oft as it is sprinkled
On our guilty hearts,
Satan in confusion
Terror-struck departs.

Oft as earth exulting
Wafts its praise on high,
Hell with terror trembles,
Heaven is filled with joy.

Lift ye, then, your voices;
Swell the mighty flood;
Louder still and louder,
Praise the Precious Blood.

Offering

Eternal Father! I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Jesus, in satisfaction for my sins, and for the wants of Holy Church.

Another Offering

Eternal Father! we offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Jesus, shed for us with such great love and bitter pain from His Right Hand; and through the merits and the efficacy of that Blood, we entreat thy Divine Majesty to grant us Thy Holy benediction, in order that we may be defended thereby from all our enemies, and be set free from every ill; whilst we say, “Benedictio Dei omnipotentis, Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti, descendat super nos, et maneat semper. Amen.”

One Pater Noster, Ave Maria, and Gloria

Canticle of the Blood

By Saint Maria de Mattias

Come, let us adore Christ, the Son of God,
who has redeemed us with his blood.

Clap your hands, all you peoples,
sing unto God with a voice of jubilation.

For you, God, glorious and mighty,
have shown us mercy.

You have not spared your only Son
but delivered him up in our behalf.

That you might redeem us from
our sins in Christ’s own blood;

That justified in the blood of Jesus
you might turn your anger from us;

That we who were separated might
be reconciled through the blood of Christ.

O God, my God, what can I render
to you for all the good you have bestowed upon me?

I will take the chalice of salvation,
and I will call upon the power of Christ’s blood.

Sing to Jesus, all you saints, and
make known the memory of his holiness.

For Christ indeed has loved us and
washed us in his blood and has
become our helper and redeemer.

May Christ be blessed forever who
has wrought such wonders in us.

Blessed be Jesus for all ages, and
may the heavens and the earth
be filled with the praises of his love.

Come, let us adore Christ, the Son
of God, who has redeemed us with his blood. Amen.

Memorare to Our Lady of the Precious Blood

REMEMBER, O Lady of the Precious Blood, the sorrowful Sheddings of the Blood of thy Jesus and the most bitter tears thou didst mingle with His Redeeming Blood. In the name of the Blood of the Victim of Reparation and of thy holy tears; in the name of the seven swords which pierced thy heart, by which thou didst become the Mediatrix of all graces for the human race and the Queen of Martyrs, have pity on my soul and on all its miseries; have pity on sinners and on the innocent souls they seek to pervert; have pity on the poor, the sick, the infirm, on all their sufferings, both physical and moral; have pity on the agonizing, especially upon those who, except for thine intercession, would leave this world without being purified in the Blood of the Lamb.

It is by the Blood of thy Dying Son, by His inexpressible Sufferings, by His last plea to His Father in favor of mankind, by His ignominious Death and by the perpetuation of His Sacrifice on Catholic Altars, that I beg thee not to reject my supplications, but graciously to hear them. Amen.

Appeal to Divine promises

Glory be to the Father, etc.

O JESUS, Who hast said, All that you will ask the Father in My Name, He will give you, with Mary, Thy Most Holy Mother, and through the merits of Thy Most Precious Blood, I humbly and earnestly ask that my prayers may be heard.
Glory be to the Father, etc.

ETERNAL FATHER, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, the merits, love and sufferings of His Sacred Heart, the tears and sorrows of our Immaculate Mother, as the price of the favor I wish to obtain, if it is for Thy glory and my salvation. Amen.

Spiritual Communion

O Blood of Jesus Christ, I adore Thee in Thine Eucharistic Presence on the Altar! I believe in Thy power and sweetness! I long to receive Thee within my poor needy heart! Come then to me, O Blood! Thou art my light, my life, my all!

Visit to the Blessed Sacrament

My Lord Jesus Christ, I most firmly believe that Thou art here present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. I adore Thee with the most profound respect. I unite my adoration with that of the Angels and Saints and with all the homage Thou renderest Thy Eternal Father in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Precious Blood of Jesus, really present in the Sacred Host, enlighten our intelligence, enkindle within us Thy love, take possession of our minds, circulate ever in our veins, may our every sense be marked with Thy divine unction, may our hearts beat for Thy glory alone and our lips for ever exalt Thee. Amen.

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us.

Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

Blood of Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust saying
Blood of Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations, Blood of Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles and sorrows,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Thy grace alone can assist me,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Thy tender love as my Father and Savior,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely,
Blood of Jesus, help me!
Always, always in spite of weakness, falls and shortcomings, of every kind,
Blood of Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was later extended to include living sinners as well.

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of Thy divine son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy sould in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”
————

Herois Act of Love

DEAR LORD, for the Love of Thy Precious Blood, I wish to make an heroic offering of all the good works I do in life in satisfaction for the temporal punishment due to my many sins, and of all the prayers offered up for me after death, in favor of those souls whom Our Blessed Mother wishes to deliver from the pains of Purgatory. Amen.

Prayer for the dying

O MOST MERCIFUL JESUS, Lover of souls I pray Thee, by the agony of Thy most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Thine Immaculate Mother, cleanse in Thine Own Blood the sinners of the whole world who are now in their agony and who are to die this day. Amen.

HEART OF JESUS, once in agony, have pity on the dying.

Prayer for Priests and Those Destined for
the Priesthood with Consecration to the Precious Blood

1. My beloved Jesus, by the Precious Blood which Thou didst shed on the day of the Circumcision, deign to watch over the infancy and early education of the children whom Thou hast destined to minister at the altar, that they may be preserved spotless till consecrated to Thee by the holy unction. Bless the families that honor Thy Precious Blood, and spread this devotion by choosing from them a large number of vocations to the priesthood, and by maintaining their fervor till the close of their lives.

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, watch over the living chalices of the Blood of Jesus. Amen.

2. Lord Jesus, by the Precious Blood which Thou didst shed in the Garden of Olives, take pity on all aspirants to the priesthood who, through the temptations of the evil one or dread of the responsibilities of the sacred ministry, are in danger of losing their vocation. Impart to these tortured souls sufficient courage to make the sacrifices by which the Eucharistic Chalice must be purchased; and in return for their generosity, inebriate them deliciously at the altar with the Blood which, in Heaven, will be their eternal source of delight.

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, etc.

3. Lord Jesus, by the Precious Blood shed in Thy painful Scourging, shield with Thy Own especial protection and that of Thine Immaculate Mother, all the ministers of the sanctuary, so that having renounced the goods of earth in order to belong entirely to Thee, they may every day offer and receive Thy Body and Blood with such pious dispositions as to enable Thee to find in their hearts “a paradise of delight.”

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, etc.

4. Lord Jesus, by the Precious Blood which Thou didst shed in Thy Crowning with Thorns, we beseech Thee to maintain our clergy in such filial submission to the Holy See and its representatives, as will forever secure for them the veneration, confidence and docility of the faithful children of Holy Church.

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, etc.

5. Lord Jesus, by Thy Precious Blood shed on the way to Calvary, take pity on priests who are victims of injustice, and who, like their adorable Model, receive in return for their devotedness, but crosses, trials and persecutions.

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, etc.
6. Lord Jesus, by the Blood of Thy Crucifixion, inflame with ever-increasing zeal the dispensers of Thy Blood. Grant that thirsting like Thee for souls, they may continue the work of Thy Bloody Passion, increasing its efficacy by applying its merits. Succor, most of all, the poor missionaries, who after watering with their sweat and their tears the soil in which they have sown the divine seed, may still be called upon to dye with their blood the land upon which they planted the cross.

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, etc.

7. Lord Jesus, through the Blood and Water shed by Thee after death, take special pity, we beseech Thee, on those among Thy ministers who will soon be mown down by death. If, through human frailty, they have become the debtors of Your justice, grant that this very day, the infinitely Precious Blood may discharge their obligations.

Our Lady of the Precious Blood, etc.

Consecration to the Precious Blood

O Jesus, fairest of the children of men, Thou Whom I see crushed beneath the weight of my sins, covered with wounds, Thy hands and feet pierced with nails, Thy side opened with a lance, I adore Thee and recognize Thee as my Lord and my God and as my beloved Redeemer. Pierced with grief at sight of the Blood flowing from Thy wounds for the redemption of souls, I feel irresistibly urged to consecrate myself to the worship of this regenerating Blood and, by an exemplary life, to atone for all the profanations of this Divine Blood and for those which It still receives daily in the veins of Thy Sacred Body present mystically on the altar. By this consecration — which I beg Thee to accept, O my Savior, I desire to spend my whole life in proving to Thee my gratitude and my love by paying frequent homage to Thy Precious Blood and by propagating this devotion as far as is in my power. I desire every pulsation of my heart to be a renewal of this consecration, a constantly repeated act of love for this redeeming Blood, a perpetual offering of Its merits in behalf of sinners and all the souls dear to me, and a hymn of unceasing praise in union with that of the Saints and all the blessed in Heaven: “To the Lamb Who redeemed us in His Blood, be honor and glory and benediction forever.”

O Mary, mother of the Divine Redeemer, obtain for me the grace of adoring fervently throughout my life the Blood of thy Divine Son and of singing forever Its mercies in Heaven. Amen.

Act of Consecration to the Precious Blood
and the Blessed Virgin for Children

Blood of my Savior, a thousand times adorable! Blood a thousand times Precious! Thou, Which dost adorn the Baptismal innocence of children, deign to bless this young soul whom we consecrate to Thee this day. O sweet Jesus! hide beneath the vivifying waves of Thy Most Precious Blood thy little [name] so that he [she] may grow in grace and holiness all the days of his [her] life. Deign to look upon him [her] as a perpetual adorer of Thy Divine Blood in as far as the designs of Providence will permit and grant that all his [her] prayers, deeds and sacrifices may be so many acts of reparation and love.

O Immaculate Virgin, ever spotless through the Blood of Jesus, thou who art called the “Flower of the Field” and the “Lily of the Valley,” look down lovingly from thy Heavenly throne upon this dear child; may he [she] grow up also under thy maternal care, shielded by thy blessings, and may every day of his [her] life be marked by thy benefits.

Most Holy Virgin whom the Church calls “Morning Star,” shine upon this soul now commencing his [her] earthly pilgrimage, preserve him [her] from all harm, and until the last moment of his [her] life, may he [she] keep pure and unsullied the robe with which, through the Blood of Jesus, he [she] was robed in holy Baptism. Take his [her] family also under thy protection, O Mary. Bless his [her] pious parents, remove far from them every temporal or spiritual misfortune, and may peace, charity and all virtues dear to thy pure and holy heart dwell ever in their midst. Amen.

A Reconciliation Prayer

God of reconciliation, passionate for your whole creation,
impel us by the love of Christ to see your guiding hand
in leading us to forgiveness, pardon, and peace.

Give us the courage to hear every story of every person
with dignity and respect. Give us hope in the blood of the cross.

Help us by your grace in the ministry of reconciliation
you have given us to do: to heal and to make whole,
and that we might work to remove every structure that provokes,
promotes, and sustains violence.

Let your word of reconciliation be in our mouths and in our hearts
that your peace might be present to all.

Do not count our sins against us, but build us up
into the body of Christ, a living temple.

We pray at the table of the Lamb and at the foot of the cross.

We are washed in your precious blood.
We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer for an End to Violence

God of life, source of hope, the violence within our world, our communities, our families, in our very selves is destroying Your creation.

Make still the restless spirit within me that is self-seeking.

Stir within my heart a renewed Spirit of reverence, respect and reconciliation.

In union with the precious blood of Jesus, give me strength to break the cycle of violence by  realizing that peace begins with me. Amen.

A Prayer in Honor of St. Gaspar del Bufalo

Loving God, you made St. Gaspar del Bufalo a priest and outstanding apostle of the Precious Blood of your Son. Through his intercession grant that we may experience the abundant fruits of the price of our redemption. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

——————
Prayer

Lord,
Your Precious Blood reminds us of your suffering, your death and resurrection.
You relieved us of a nonsensical life and of an eternal death.
Give courage to those who bow down under oppression.
Give life to those who are living an empty life.
Give strength and resistance to those who work for peace and security.
Revive the fire of love among men and the flame of unity and tolerance among Christians.

Lord,
Your Precious Blood reminds us of the New alliance between God and men.
It is the sign of your liking for us.
May this alliance grow every day.
Open my heart and my mind for every man You put on my road.
That Your Precious Blood give me the courage to bear witness to God.

—————–

It is prayed on an ordinary rosary.

On the large beads:

V. Eternal Father,
I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Thy Beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb without blemish or spot (1 P 1:19) —
R. For the refreshment and deliverance of the souls in Purgatory.

(One can add here, especially those of my family, or of my ancestry, or of priests. The Holy Spirit sometimes moves one to pray for particular groups of Holy Souls.)

Ten times on the small beads:

V. By Thy Precious Blood, O Jesus —
R. Purify and deliver their souls.

After having said five decades, one concludes with:

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them.
V. May they rest in peace.
R. Amen.

Devotion to the Drops of Blood Lost by Our Lord Jesus Christ

St. Elizabeth, Queen of Hungary, with St. Matilda and St. Bridget, wishing to know something of the Passion of Jesus Christ, offered fervent and special prayers, upon which Our Lord revealed to them:

To all the faithful who shall recite for 3 years, each day, 2 Our Fathers, 2 Hail Mary’s and 2 Glory Be’s, in honor of the drops of Blood I lost, I will concede the following 5 graces:

1st The plenary indulgence and remittance of your sins.

2nd You will be free from the pains of Purgatory.

3rd If you should die before completing the said 3 years, for you it will be the same as if you had completed them.

Petition in Honor of the Precious Blood

Precious Blood of Jesus, shed in the circumcision, make me pure of mind, heart and body.

Precious Blood, oozing from every pore of Jesus in the Agony, enable me to love God’s holy will above all.

Precious Blood, flowing from the scourging at the pillar, inspire me with a sorrow for my sins, and a tolerance for suffering.

Precious Blood, falling in profusion from the crown of thorns, grant me a ready acceptance of humiliations.

Precious Blood, shed to the last drop by the opening of Christ’s Sacred Heart, give me that generous love which sacrifices all for God.

Precious Blood, sacred price of my redemption, apply to me your infinite merits.

Precious Blood, I adore you from the depths of my heart; I invoke you ardently, for you are my salvation, and by you I hope to obtain the joys of heaven. Amen.
———–

Prayer of Offering of the Precious Blood

Eternal Father, you have given Your only Son to be the Redeemer of the world and willed that He should shed – even to the last drop – His Precious Blood for love of all people. I offer you the effusion of the Precious Blood which flowed beneath the knife of the circumcision, which watered the Garden of Olives, which flooded the praetorium and streets of Jerusalem, which was shed in torrents at the Crucifixion, and whose last drops reddened the steel of the lance. In the name of this adorable Blood, grant to sinners the grace of salvation, to the just an increase of love, and to all human beings a large share in the merits which it has assured us. Pardon us in the name of this divine Blood. Heed its pleading voice. Remember that it is the Blood of Your Son in whose name You have promised to hear our every prayer. Amen.
———–
O Gentlest Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament,
ever consumed with burning love
for the poor captive souls in Purgatory,
have Mercy on the soul of Thy departed servant.
Be not severe in Thy Judgment
but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood
fall upon the devouring flames
and do Thou, O Merciful Savior send Thy angels
to conduct Thy departed servant
to a place of refreshment, light and peace.

Amen

Prayer for a happy death

O Mother of Sorrows, by the anguish and love with which thou didst stand beside the Cross of Jesus, stand by me in my last agony. To thy maternal heart I commend the three last hours of my life. Offer these hours to the Eternal Father in union with the agony of our dearest Lord. Offer frequently to the Eternal Father, in atonement for my sins, the Precious Blood of Jesus, mingled with thy tears on Calvary, to obtain for me the grace to receive Holy Communion with most perfect love and contrition before my death, and to breathe forth my soul in the actual presence of Jesus.

Dearest Mother, when the moment of my death has come, present me as thy child to Jesus; say to Him in my behalf: “Son, forgive him, for he knew not what he did. Receive him this day into Thy kingdom.”

Morning Offering
BASED ON THREE REVELATIONS OF OUR LORD
To St. Mechtilde and Two Mystics

DEAR LORD, I adore Thy Sacred Heart, which I desire to enter with acts of love, praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. I offer Thee my own heart as I sigh to Thee from its very depths, asking that Thou will worketh through me in all that I do this day; thus may I draw Thee closer to me than Thou wert before. I offer Thee all the crosses and sufferings of the world, in union with Thy life on earth, in expiation for sins. Please join my every action and heartbeat to the pulsations of Thy Heart. I unite all my works of this day to those labors Thou didst perform while Thou wert on earth, bathing them in Thy Precious Blood, and I offer them to the Heavenly Father so that many souls may be saved. Amen.

This prayer is based on the following revelations:

“When you awake, enter at once into My Heart, and when you are in it, offer My Father all your actions united to the pulsations of My Heart . . . If [a person is] engaged in work of no value in itself, if she bathes it in My Blood or unites it to the work I Myself did during My mortal life, it will greatly profit souls . . . more, perhaps, than if she had preached to the whole world. You will be able to save many souls that way.”

——-Our Lord to Sr. Josefa Menendez [1890-1923]

“When you awake in the morning, let your first act be to salute My Heart, and to offer Me your own . . . Whoever shall breathe a sigh toward Me from the bottom of his heart when he awakes in the morning and shall ask Me to work all his works in him throughout the day, will draw Me to him . . . For never does a man breathe a sigh of longing aspiration toward Me without drawing Me nearer to him than I was before.”

——-Our Lord to St. Mechtilde [1241-1298]

“It is not merely by praying that souls are saved, but through the actions of even the most ordinary lives lived for God . . . Offer Me everything united to My life on earth.
. . . Offer Me all the crosses of the world. There are so many, and few think of offering them to Me in expiation for sins . . .”

——-Our Lord to Gabrielle Bossis [1874-1950]

Act of Consecration to the  Most Precious Blood

Blood of Jesus, inebriate me! O Jesus, my Beloved Savior, ever present in the Tabernacle, to be the strength, the joy and the food of souls, I come to consecrate myself to Thy Precious Blood, and to pledge Thee my sincere love and fidelity. Pierced with sorrow at the remembrance of Thy sufferings, the contemplation of the Cross, and the thought of the outrages and contempt lavished by ungrateful souls upon Thy dear Blood, I long, O my Jesus, to bring joy to Thy Heart, and to make Thee forget my sins, and those of the whole world, by consecrating my body and soul to Thy service. I desire, my Jesus, to live henceforth, only by Thy Blood and for Thy Blood. I now choose It as my greatest treasure and the dearest object of my love.

O merciful Redeemer, deign to regard me as a perpetual adorer of Thy Most Precious Blood, and be pleased to accept my prayers, my deeds and my sacrifices, as so many acts of reparation and love.

Heavenly Wine, giver of purity and strength, pour down upon my soul. Make of my heart a living chalice from which grace shall constantly flow on those that love Thee, and especially on poor sinners that offend Thee. Teach me to honor Thee and to make Thee honored by others. Give me power to draw to Thee cold and hardened hearts, that they may feel how infinitely Thy consolations surpass those of the world.

O Blood of my Crucified Savior, detach me from the world, and the spirit of the world. Make me love suffering and sacrifice, after the example of St. Catherine of Sienna, who loved Thee so much [and whom I choose again today as my special patroness].

O Precious Blood, be my strength amid the trials and struggles of exile. Grant that at the hour of death I may be able to bless Thee for having been the comfort and the sanctification of my soul, before becoming, in Heaven, the everlasting object of my love and praise.

Saints of God, who owe thy happiness to the Blood of Jesus; Angelic spirits, who sing Its glory and power, august Virgin, who to It owest the privileges of thine Immaculate Conception and Divine Maternity, help me to pay to the Precious Blood of my Redeemer a perpetual homage of adoration, reparation and thanksgiving. Amen.

Novena to the Precious Blood

Holy and Eternal Father, behold, I present myself before Thee, begging Thee to listen favorably to the supplication I most humbly address to Thy Divine Majesty. It is not in my name I pray, but in the name of Jesus Whom I have offended, and Who pardons me mercifully. I substitute Him in my place. It is His Divine Blood which I present to Thee, O God of goodness, repeating a thousand times from the depth of my heart: Jesus Crucified is my reparation, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my Victim, my Holocaust, my Host, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my tender solicitude for sinners and my sorrow for their offences and my own, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my prayer as His Blood is my voice, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my faith, my hope and my love, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my adoration, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my zeal for Thy glory and for that of His Precious Blood, I offer Him to Thee; Jesus Crucified is my surety, as His Blood is payment of all my debt, I offer Him to Thee. O Lord, look upon this God Who annihilated Himself for Thy glory; and, for love of Him, forgive us all our sins; grant us all the favors which we solicit by the voice of His Blood and of His Wounds, and arrest the course of outrages which is incessantly renewed against Him. Amen.

Prayer to the Precious Blood, Invoking the Help of Mary

O Sacred Blood, that flowed so copiously seven times for my salvation, I love Thee, I praise Thee, I adore Thee with the deepest feeling of gratitude! The purest fountain from which Thou didst flow makes Thy memory so sweet. O Precious Blood, with trumpet tones Thou speakest to me of the love of my God and Redeemer. How I deplore my coldness and indifference towards Thee! Now, at last, I wish to return love for love, blood for blood, if necessary. As often as my pulse beats, it shall greet Thee, Thou sweet Guest of my soul, and shall return to the arteries warmed and purified by Thy love. As long as the blood courses through my veins, it shall flow only for love of Thee; it shall circulate only for Thy interests and it shall turn cold and stand still only because I am about to love Thee in eternity. Oh, let this stream of Thy love flow through every heart and inebriate it with holy joy!

My dearest Mother Mary, I beseech Thee with confidence, obtain for me, although thy unworthy child, the blessing of God the Father, by covering me with the merits of thy Son Jesus, that I may regain my eternal birthright in Heaven. Clothe me every evening, Sweet Lady of Mt. Carmel, but especially on the eve of my life, with the “Dyed Garments” of the Precious Blood. Amen.

Novena to the Precious Blood, Invoking the Help of Mary

By the voice of Thy Blood, O Jesus, we would press Thee, solicit Thee, importune Thee. Though Thou seemest to reject our supplications, we will not leave Thy bleeding feet until Thou hearest our prayers. So many graces, so many mercies have come forth from Thy Blood that we shall not cease to hope even to the end, in its efficacy. Then, O Jesus, by Thy precious Blood seven times shed for the welfare of men, by each drop of that Sacred Price of our Redemption, by the tears of Thy Immaculate Mother, we entreat Thee to hear our prayers.

(Here pause and mention your requests)

O Thou, Who during all the days of Thy mortal life consoled so many sufferings, healed so many infirmities, encouraged so many who were disheartened, Thou wilt not fail to have pity on a soul who cries to Thee from the depths of her anguish! No, it is impossible. Another sigh from our wounded hearts, and from the wound in Thy own will flow to us upon a wave of Thy Precious Blood the graces we ardently desire!

O Jesus, hasten the moment when Thou wilt change our tears into joys, our sighs into thanksgivings.

Holy Mary, source of the Divine Blood, we entreat Thee not to lose this occasion for glorifying the Blood which made thee immaculate. Amen.
——–

An offering of the Precious Blood for Souls

O my God, I beg of Thee in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, through the merits of the Precious Blood offered Thee in every Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, to grant that this day one mortal sin may be averted, one soul in doubt may be converted to the truth, one soul about to die in sin may receive the grace of repentance and a happy death, and the deliverance of that Soul in Purgatory which is nearest Heaven. I wish by this offering to console the Heart of Jesus in agony for the souls lost through the teaching of error against the true Church of Christ Jesus, Our Lord. Amen.

Morning Oblation

preciousbloodjesus12
O merciful God, I most humbly beg a share in all the Masses that shall be offered and all the Holy Communions that shall be made, from the rising of the sun until the going down thereof, for myself and all those who are dear to me, for all who pray for me, for all who may have ever injured me, or whom I may have injured; for my dear parents, relatives and benefactors; for all who may be delayed in Purgatory through my fault; for the Holy Souls for whom Our Blessed Lady and St. Joseph desire help; for those in Purgatory who, during life, were especially devoted to the Adorable Sacrament, to the Precious Blood, to the Sacred Heart, or to the Bitter Passion and Death of our Divine Lord; for the poor, the sick, the afflicted in body; for all who are grievously tempted, for all who are suffering crosses, either spiritual or temporal; for those in their last agony, for poor, obdurate sinners, and for those who have none to pray for them; for the just, that they may receive the crowning grace of perseverance; finally, for all religious communities.

0 my dear Angel Guardian; and Angel Guardians of all those, both living and dead, for whom I ask a share in the Holy Masses and Holy Communion, deign in your loving sweetness and charity to offer them on our behalf.

Eternal Father, I most earnestly desire to gain all the indulgences attached to my prayers and actions of this day (here form your intention either for the Holy Souls or whatever your devotion may suggest), and I humbly offer them for these intentions.

An Old Morning Prayer
From The Blossoms of the Cross — 1894
The Sisters of St. Joseph

I Rise

In God’s strength

In God’s power,

In the Agony of Christ,

In the Cross of Christ,

In Christ’s Precious Blood,

These will sustain me against my enemies, visible and invisible:

I rise in the blessing of Christ which my dearest

Jesus left to the whole world.

Protect me, All-Holy Trinity,

God the Father, Who created me,

God, the Son, Who redeemed me in His Precious Blood,

God, the Holy Ghost, Who sanctified me in Holy Baptism.

God, the Father, I give myself to Thee!

God, the Son, I commend myself to Thee!

God, the Holy Ghost, teach me!

Mary, Mother of God, assist me!

All ye Saints of God, pray for me!

All ye Holy Angels, protect me!

The Cross of Christ preserve me!

In all the Holy Sacrifices of the Mass,

In all the Holy Communions,

In all priestly blessings,

In all good works performed today throughout Christendom,

I commend myself body and soul.

I unite myself to the united prayer of the Catholic Church.

Holy Mary, forsake me not in all my necessities!

Lead me to Jesus after death!

O holy Joseph, thou man of God, from my heart I call on thee.

I love thee with all my heart; preserve me in all dangers and necessities.

O Lord God, heavenly Father,

In union with perfect works performed by

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, do I this day offer all

My thoughts, words and actions,

All my pains and labor,

All my steps,

Every breath I draw,

Every morsel I eat,

Every drop I drink,

All the suffering and pain of my sickness,

All annoyance offered me,

All the holy indulgences that I can gain,

All the devotions of Christendom to Thy greater honor and glory,

for the consolation and salvation of all my fellow creatures, both living and dead.

Come, Holy Ghost, instruct me; teach me that

Which I do not know, give me that which I have not.

Come, Holy Ghost, fill me with Thy sevenfold gifts.

Jesus in my heart!

Jesus in my mind!

With Jesus, Mary and Joseph

May I spend the entire day. Amen!

Act of Thanksgiving

ACCEPT, O most merciful God, the Sacrifice of Thy Son, in thanksgiving for all the benefits Thou hast granted me.

Thou hast created me to Thine Own Image and Likeness. Thou hast redeemed me with Thy Son’s Precious Blood. Thou hast called me to the true faith, and preserved me from eternal death, which I so often deserved for my sins.

What return shall I make Thee I for these and all Thy favors?

I offer Thee Thine Only Son, Who offered His Lifeblood on the Altar this morning, uniting my little sacrifices with His great Sacrifice; and thus I am able to make a real thanksgiving for all the blessings Thou hast bestowed on me and on all mankind.

Prayer to the Wounded Heart of Jesus

O my Most Loving and Gentle Jesus, I desire with all
the affections of my heart, that all beings created and
uncreated, should praise Thee, honor Thee and glorify
Thee eternally for that Sacred Wound wherewith Thy
Divine side was rent. I deposit, enclose, conceal in that
wound and in that opening in Thy Heart, my heart and
all my feelings, thoughts, desires, intentions
and all the faculties of my soul.
I entreat Thee, by the Precious Blood and Water that flowed
from Thy Most Loving Heart, to take entire possession of me,
that Thou may guide me in all things.

Consume me in the burning fire of Thy Holy Love,
so that I may be so absorbed and transformed
into Thee that I may no longer be but one
with Thee. Amen.

Prayer to the Precious Blood

Most Precious Blood of Life Eternal, price of sinful man’s redemption, by whose saving streams the thirst of souls is quenched, and their stains are washed away, Thou Who dost plead the cause of man before the throne of infinite mercy, from the depths of my heart I adore Thee and desire, as much as lies in my power, to make atonement for the injuries and insults that are constantly offered Thee by mankind, and especially by those who rashly dare to blaspheme Thee. Who will not bless and praise this Blood of infinite value? Whose soul would not be inspired with love for Jesus Who shed It all for us? What would be my fate, had I not been redeemed by this Divine Blood? And what drew Thee from the veins of my Saviour even to the last drop? It was love! O boundless love, which has given us this saving balm! O priceless balm, welling from the fount of immeasurable love! Grant that all hearts and tongues may praise Thee, magnify Thee, and give Thee thanks, now and throughout all ages. Amen.

——————

Act of Reparation to the Precious Blood

Adorable Jesus, Lamb without spot, Who ceasest not to pour forth Thy Divine Blood in order to appease the justice of Thy Heavenly Father; innocent and thrice holy Victim, who hast paid for the guilty a ransom infinite in merit and in sacrifice, I come before Thee to render thanksgiving for Thy benefits to us, and to make some poor amends for the crimes committed upon earth. Lord, how small, alas, are the number of those who do Thee honor, and how numerous, on the contrary, are they who despise and trample under foot Thy Precious Blood! How many daily satiate Thee with the opprobrium of Calvary!

O Jesus, by the potent voice of Thy Divine Blood, and in the name of the infinite merits of Thy heart-rending Passion, I implore Thy mercy, not for myself alone, but for the many souls who, resisting the call of grace, refuse to seek, at the foot of the Cross, or under the shadow of the Tabernacle, pardon and life. Pity, gentle Jesus, pity all these; pity also those who dare to approach Thee all uncleansed, and to mingle Thine adorable Blood with the mire of their sins. Yes, pity, mercy, pardon! We implore these graces in the name of Thy Blood and Thine Eucharist!
Most holy Mary, bless me! Take my heart, hold it fast, and keep it in perpetual adoration before the altar; that there it may ever be, glorifying Jesus, and making reparation for the outrages offered to His Blood.

Prayer from the Raccolta
(218)

preciousbloodjesus11

O Precious Blood of Jesus, infinite price of sinful man’s redemption, both drink and laver of our souls, Thou Who dost plead continually the cause of man before the throne of infinite mercy; from the depths of my heart, I adore Thee, and so far as I am able, I would requite Thee for the insults and outrages which Thou dost continually receive from human beings, and especially from those who rashly dare to blaspheme Thee. Who would not bless this Blood of infinite value? Who doth not feel within himself the fire of the love of Jesus Who shed it for all of us? What would be my fate, had I not been redeemed by this Divine Blood? Who hath drawn it from the veins of my Saviour, even to the last drop? Ah, this surely was the work of love. O infinite love, which has given us this saving balm! O balm beyond all price, welling up from the fountain of infinite love, grant that every heart and every tongue may be enabled to praise Thee, magnify Thee and give Thee thanks both now and for evermore. Amen.

A Precious Offering through the Blessed Virgin Mary for a Special Grace

O MARY, Mother of Sorrows, I beseech thee, by the inexpressible tortures thou didst endure at the death of thy Son, offer to the Eternal Father, in my place, thy beloved Son all covered with Blood and Wounds. for the grace of … Amen.

Prayer to Jesus suffering

(Our Lord said to St. Mechtilde: “Behold, I make over to thee all the bitterness of My Passion, that thou mayest offer it to Me again as though it were thine own possession. And whoever shall do this, shall receive double at my hand, and whenever he renews this offering he shall surely receive the double; and this is that hundredfold which a man receives in this life, and in the world to come, life everlasting.”)

O most gracious Jesus, Redeemer and Saviour of the whole human race, I recall to Thy mind with gratitude and love all the sorrow and anxiety which Thou, my Creator and my God, didst feel in Thine agony, when Thou didst pray yet longer, and didst bedew the earth with the sweat of Blood, wrung from Thee by Thine exceeding anguish, desire and love, beseeching Thee by all and each of those most sacred drops, all which I here offer Thee with devout affection, that Thou wouldst wash away all the stains of my sins. I recall to Thy mind Thy being unjustly bound with heavy chains, Thy innumerable stripes and blows, and all the contumely and the blasphemy wherewith Thou wast assailed, when all proclaimed Thee a deceiver of the people; when Thou wast falsely accused before Pilate, ignominiously mocked by Herod, and set aside for an impious robber; and when all the whole multitude clamorously demanded that Thou shouldst be crucified. All this Thou didst endure with such love and such patience that although Thou couldst by one look have appalled Thine adversaries, and with one word convicted the false witnesses against Thee, yet Thou didst submit to be led like a sheep to the slaughter, and stand before Thy judge with Thy head bowed in humility, Thine eyes fixed on the ground, not once opening Thy mouth to speak one word of complaint at the lying accusations brought against Thee. Wherefore I give Thee thanks on behalf of all mankind, and offer Thee all the outrages and insults heaped on Thee, in satisfaction for all the insults I have offered Thee by my sins. I give Thee thanks also and I recall to Thy mind Thy most cruel and excessive scourging, wherewith Thy whole body was so gashed and torn, that from the sole of Thy foot to the top of Thy head there was no soundness in Thee. I set forth now before Thee, likewise, that intolerable anguish Thou didst feel when the crown of thorns was so harshly forced upon Thy kingly head, when the sharp thorns pierced Thy head and Thy brow, and were thrust into Thy brain, and Thy most gentle loving face, into which the Angels desire to look, was covered with slow trickling drops of Thy roseate Blood. O most pitiful Jesus, I now recall to Thy mind, the unutterable anguish which thrilled through Thy whole Body, when Thou wast fastened to the Cross with iron nails, when Thou wast lifted up on high on Thy cross, and blasphemed by the Jews, mocked in Thy thirst with vinegar and gall, and hung up between two robbers, as the refuse and off-scouring of all creatures. Lastly, O most gracious Jesus, I recall to Thy mind with gratitude and compassion all and each of the sorrows Thou didst feel throughout Thy whole most sacred Body and especially in Thy sweetest Heart, by reason of Thy foreknowledge that Thy most bitter, most shameful, most guiltless Passion would be of no avail to so many; and when Thy deified Heart itself broke with excessive love and grief, and Thy most holy soul quitted Thy blessed Body with an inconceivable pang! For all these, Thy sorrows, I give Thee infinite thanks; and through Thy sweetest Heart, in the power of the Holy Spirit, in behalf of, and with the love of all creatures, I offer Thee all Thy grief, and pain, and torment of Body and soul, throughout all the time of Thy Passion, for all the sins I have committed, for all the good I have left undone or done negligently, and to turn away all the punishment I have so justly deserved. Do Thou now vouchsafe to ratify and accept this my oblation and to absolve me from all my sins. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the adorable wounded Face of Jesus, through the intercession of Little Theresa, to obtain my request.

Remember, O Beloved Jesus,
Who for the love of me didst agonize on the Cross,
and from that throne of truth didst announce the
completion of the work of our Redemption, through which,
from being the children of wrath and perdition,
we are become the children of God and the heirs of Heaven:

Have mercy on all the faithful in their agony,
and on me also when I shall be in that extremity,
and, through the merits of Thy Precious Blood,
detach us entirely from the world and from ourselves,
and at the moment of our agony give us grace
sincerely to offer Thee the sacrifice of our life
in expiation for our sins. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

For Monday

Lord God omnipotent, I beseech Thee, by the Precious Blood which Thy Divine Son Jesus shed in His cruel scourging, deliver the Souls in Purgatory, and amongst them all, especially that Soul which is nearest to its entrance into Thy glory; that so, it may soon begin to praise and bless Thee forever.
Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

For Tuesday

Lord God omnipotent, I beseech Thee, by the Precious Blood which Thy Divine Son Jesus shed in His bitter crowning with thorns, deliver the Souls in Purgatory, and in particular, amongst them all, deliver that one which would be the last to issue from those pains, that it tarry not so long a time before it comes to praise Thee in Thy glory and bless Thee forever. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

For Wednesday

LORD God omnipotent, I beseech Thee, by the Precious Blood which Thy Divine Son Jesus shed through the streets of Jerusalem when He carried the crust upon His sacred shoulders, deliver the Souls in Purgatory, and especially that Soul which is richest in merits before Thee; that so, on that throne of glory which awaits it, it may magnify Thee and bless Thee forever. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

For Thursday

LORD God omnipotent, I beseech Thee, by the Precious Body and Blood of Thy Divine Son Jesus, which He gave with His Own hand upon the eve of His passion to His beloved Apostles to be their meat and drink, and which He left to His whole Church to be a perpetual sacrifice and life-giving food of His Own faithful people, deliver the Souls in Purgatory, and especially that one which was most devoted to this mystery of infinite love; that, with Thy Divine Son, and with Thy Holy Spirit, it may ever praise Thee for this Thy wondrous love in Thy eternal glory. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

For Friday

LORD God omnipotent, I beseech Thee, by the Precious Blood which Thy Divine Son shed on this day, upon the wood of the Cross, from His most sacred hands and feet, deliver the Souls in Purgatory, and especially that Soul for which I am most bound to pray; that the blame rest not with me that Thou bringest it not forthwith to praise Thee in Thy glory and to bless Thee forever. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

For Saturday

Lord God omnipotent, I beseech Thee, by the Precious Blood which gushed forth from the side of Thy Divine Son Jesus in the sight and to the extreme pain of His most holy Mother deliver the Souls in Purgatory, and especially that one amongst them all which was ever the most devout to this great Lady; that it may soon attain unto Thy glory, there to praise Thee in her, and her in Thee, world without end. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and the De Profundis

This once carried an Indulgence of 500 days for each prayer granted by the Pontiff of 1826.

The De Profundis still carries a partial indulgence; the prayers are still traditionally said as they are efficacious for the relief of the Holy Souls. Additionally the November prayers for the departed faithful still carry indulgences, at the very least a partial.

DE PROFUNDIS

Psalm 129

Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord: O Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication,
If Thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall abide it?
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness: and because of Thy law I have waited for Thee, O Lord.
My soul hath waited on His word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning watch even until night let Israel hope in the Lord.
For with the Lord there is mercy; and with him is plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.

Most Loving Jesus

Most Loving Jesus, I humbly beseech Thee, that Thou Thyself wouldst offer to Thine Eternal Father in behalf of the Holy Souls in Purgatory, the Most Precious Blood which poured forth from the Sacred Wounds of Thine adorable Body, together with Thine agony and death. And do thou likewise, O sorrowful Virgin Mary, present unto Him. together with the dolorous Passion of thy dear Son, thine own sighs and tears, and all the sorrows thou didst suffer in His suffering, in order that, through the merits of the same, refreshment may be granted to the Souls now suffering in the fiery torments of Purgatory, so that, being delivered from that painful prison, they may be clothed with glory in Heaven, there to sing the mercies of God for ever and ever. Amen.

Absolve, O Lord, the Souls of all the faithful departed from every bond of sin, that with Thy gracious assistance they may deserve to escape the judgment of vengeance and enjoy the blessedness of everlasting light.

Eternal rest rant unto them, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
From the gates of Hell,
Deliver their Souls, O Lord.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.

O Lord hear my prayer.
And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray.
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful; grant unto the Souls of Thy servants and handmaids the remission of all their sins: that through our devout supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired. Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

This once carried a Plenary under the usual conditions, if the prayers were said daily for an entire month. Granted by Pope Leo XIII, 1988. The Eternal Rest portion still has a Partial Indulgence.

Our Lady of Intercession

MOST holy Mary, Our Lady of Intercession, whose maternal tenderness gathers in one embrace all the Souls redeemed by the Precious Blood of thy Son Jesus, we come before thy royal throne with sadness in our hearts as we remember those who have gone before us, but also with unlimited confidence in thine intercession. Death, which burst asunder the bonds of earth, has not destroyed the affection which binds us to those who lived in the same Faith as we do. O Mary, countless souls await with unutterable anxiety the assistance of our prayers, and the merits of our good works in that place of expiation.

Urged by the charity of Jesus Christ, we raise our countenance and heart in supplication to thee, the compassionate Mother of all believers, in favor of those suffering Souls.

Make our prayers of good effect, O Mary; obtain for them the power to move the Heart of Jesus our Redeemer through thy motherly intercession. Let thine incomparable holiness supply the defects of our misery, thy love make good our languid affection, thy power strengthen our weakness. grant, O Queen of Heaven, that the ardent desire of the Souls of the departed to be admitted to the Beatific Vision may soon be satisfied. We pray to thee, O Mother, especially for the Souls of our relations, of priests, of those who were zealous in honoring thee, of those who did good to the Souls of others, of those who wept with them and for them and finally, for the Souls of those who are forgotten.

Grant that one day, when we are all reunited in Heaven, we may be able to rejoice in the possession of God, in the happiness of thy dear presence, in the fellowship of Saints, thanking thee forever for all the blessings thou hast obtained for us, O Mother, who art our unfailing comfort. Amen.

Hail Mary three times, and once:

Eternal rest give unto them. O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them; may they rest in peace. Amen.

The Miracle Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come before Thee, just as I am, I am sorry for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In Thy Name, I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce Satan, the evil spirits and all their works. I give Thee my entire self, Lord Jesus, I accept Thee as my Lord God and Savior. Heal me, change me, strengthen me in body, soul, and spirit.

Come Lord Jesus, cover me with Thy Precious Blood, and fill me with Thy Holy Spirit, I love Thee Lord Jesus, I praise Thee Lord Jesus, I thank Thee Jesus, I shall follow Thee every day of my life. Amen.

Mary, My Mother, Queen of Peace, all the Angels and Saints, please help me. Amen.

Say this prayer faithfully, no matter how you feel. When you come to the point where you sincerely mean each word with all your heart, Jesus will change your whole life in a very special way. You will see.

Conversin or Return to the faith

O GOD, all hearts are in Thy Hands. Thou canst bend, as it pleases Thee, the most stubborn, and soften the most obdurate. I beseech Thee by the Holy Name, the Precious Blood, the Merits, Wounds and Divine Heart of Jesus, Thy Beloved Son, to grant the conversion we ask. Amen.

Prayer of St. Francis Xavier for the conversion of infidels

ETERNAL God, Creator of all things, remember that Thou alone didst create the souls of infidels, framing them to Thy Own image and likeness; behold, O Lord! how, to Thy dishonor, Hell is daily replenished with them. Remember, O Lord! Thy Only Son, Jesus Christ, Who suffered for them, most bountifully shedding His Precious Blood: suffer not, O Lord Thy Son and our Lord to be any longer despised by infidels; but rather, being appeased by the entreaties and prayers of the elect, the Saints, and of the Church, the most blessed spouse of Thy Son, vouchsafe to be mindful of Thy mercy, and forgetting their idolatry and infidelity, cause them also to know Him Whom Thou didst send, Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord, Who is our health, life, and resurrection, through Whom we are freed and saved, to Whom be all glory forever.

Appeal to St. Joseph

O BLESSED ST. JOSEPH, tenderhearted Father, faithful guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse, of the Mother of God, I pray and beseech thee to offer to God the Father,  His Divine Son, bathed in Blood on the Cross for sinners, and through the thrice Holy Name of Jesus, obtain for us from the Eternal Father, the favor we implore… Amen.

O JOSEPH, foster Father of Jesus, most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, pray for us daily to the Son of God, so that, armed with the might of His grace and loyally fighting the good fight here on earth, we may be crowned by Him at the hour of our death. Amen.
——–

Aspiration to be said 3 times to Jesus:

WE BESEECH THEE, therefore, help Thy servants, whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy Precious Blood.

Aspirations

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in atonement for my sins, and in supplication for the Holy Souls in Purgatory and for the needs of holy Church. (Raccolta, 219)

Lord Jesus Christ, Who camest down from Heaven to earth from the bosom of the Father, and didst shed Thy Precious Blood for the remission of our sins: we humbly beseech Thee, that in the day of judgment we may deserve to hear, standing at Thy right hand: “Come, ye blessed.” Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen (Roman Miasal).

Almighty, and everlasting God, Who hast appointed Thine Only-begotten Son to be the Redeemer of the world, and hast been pleased to be reconciled unto us by His Blood, grant us, we beseech Thee, so to venerate with solemn worship the price of our salvation, that the power thereof may here on earth keep us from all things hurtful, and the fruit of the same may gladden us for ever hereafter in Heaven. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen (Roman Missal).

———-

LORD Jesus by faith in Your merits, I now take Your Precious Blood and sprinkle it over myself and my family right from the crown of my head to the very soles of my feet. I claim total and complete protection for my life and my family. Lord Jesus, keep me free today from evil, sin, temptation, Satan’s attacks and afflictions, fear of darkness, fear of man, sickness, diseases, doubts, anger, all calamities and from all that is not of Your Kingdom.

FILL me Lord Jesus with the gifts of Your Holy Spirit and grant me the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, faith, understanding and discernment, so that I will live today in Your Glory by doing what is right.

I praise You Jesus, I thank You Jesus,

I love You Jesus, I adore You Jesus.

———–

From The Glories Of Mary, by Saint Alphonsus Liguori:

O Mother of God, Queen of angels and hope of men, give ear to one who calls upon thee and has recourse to thy protection. Behold me this day prostrate at thy feet; I, a miserable slave of hell, devote myself entirely to thee. I desire to be forever thy servant. I offer myself to serve and honor thee to the utmost of my power during the whole of my life.

I know that the service of one so vile and miserable can be no honor to thee, since I have so grievously offended Jesus, thy Son and my Redeemer. But if thou wilt accept one so unworthy for thy servant, and by thy intercession change me, and thus making me worthy, this very mercy will give thee that honor which so miserable a wretch as I can never give thee.

Receive me, then, and reject me not, O my Mother. The Eternal Word came from heaven on earth to seek for lost sheep, and to save them he became thy Son. And when one of them goes to thee to find Jesus, wilt thou despise it?

The price of my salvation is already paid; my Savior has already shed his blood, which suffices to save an infinity of worlds. This blood has only to be applied even to such a one as I am. And that is thy office, O Blessed Virgin; to thee does it belong, as I am told by St. Bernard, to dispense the merits of this blood to whom thou pleasest. To thee does it belong, says St. Bonaventure, to save whomsoever thou willest, “whomsoever thou willest will be saved” (”Quem vis, ipse salvus erit”).

Oh, then, help me, my Queen; my Queen, save me. To thee do I this day consecrate my whole soul; do thou save it. O salvation of those who invoke thee, I conclude in the words of the same saint, “O salvation of those who call upon thee, do thou save me” (”O Salus te invocantium!”).
Amen.

Holy Spirit Novena Day 7

SEVENTH DAY (Thursday, 7th Week of Easter)
Heal our wounds–our strength renews; On our dryness pour Thy dew, Wash the stains of guilt away.

The Gift of Counsel

The gift of Counsel endows the soul with supernatural prudence, enabling it to judge promptly and rightly what must done, especially in difficult circumstances. Counsel applies the principles furnished by Knowledge and Understanding to the innumerable concrete cases that confront us in the course of our daily duty as parents, teachers, public servants, and Christian citizens. Counsel is supernatural common sense, a priceless treasure in the quest of salvation. “Above all these things, pray to the Most High, that He may direct thy way in truth.”

Prayer

Come, O Spirit of Counsel, help and guide me in all my ways, that I may always do Thy holy will. Incline my heart to that which is good; turn it away from all that is evil, and direct me by the straight path of Thy commandments to that goal of eternal life for which I long.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE. Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light, and listen to Your voice, and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You, by Your compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, “Speak Lord for Your servant heareth.” Amen.
To be recited daily during the Novena
PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.
(To be recited daily during the Novena)

Holy Spirit Novena Day 6

SIXTH DAY (Wednesday, 7th Week of Easter)

If Thou take Thy grace away, nothing pure in man will stay, All his good is turn’d to ill.

The Gift of Understanding

Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion BY faith we know them, but by Understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to “walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

 Prayer

Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy Light; and in the light of glory to have a clear vision of Thee and the Father and the Son. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Holy Spirit Novena Day 5

FIFTH DAY (Tuesday, 7th Week of Easter)
Light immortal! Light Divine! Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill!

The Gift of Knowledge

The gift of Knowledge enables the soul to evaluate created things at their true worth–in their relation to God. Knowledge unmasks the pretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose as instruments in the service of God. It shows us the loving care of God even in adversity, and directs us to glorify Him in every circumstance of life. Guided by its light, we put first things first, and prize the friendship of God beyond all else. “Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it.”

Prayer

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, and grant that I may perceive the will of the Father; show me the nothingness of earthly things, that I may realize their vanity and use them only for Thy glory and my own salvation, looking ever beyond them to Thee, and Thy eternal rewards. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Holy Spirit Novena Day 4

FOURTH DAY (Monday, 7th Week of Easter)
Thou in toil art comfort sweet, Pleasant coolness in the heat, solace in the midst of woe.

The Gift of Fortitude

The Gift of Fortitude By the gift of Fortitude the soul is strengthened against natural fear, and supported to the end in the performance of duty. Fortitude imparts to the will an impulse and energy which move it to under take without hesitancy the most arduous tasks, to face dangers, to trample under foot human respect, and to endure without complaint the slow martyrdom of even lifelong tribulation. “He that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.”

Prayer

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Fortitude, uphold my soul in time of trouble and adversity, sustain my efforts after holiness, strengthen my weakness, give me courage against all the assaults of my enemies, that I may never be overcome and separated from Thee, my God and greatest Good. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

The Power of the Hail Mary

One day, when Saint Mechtilde was praying and trying to think of some way in which she could express her love of the Blessed Mother better than she had done before, she fell into ecstasy. Our Lady appeared to her with the Angelic Salutation in flaming letters of gold upon her bosom and said to the saint, “My daughter, I want you to know that no one can please me more than by saying the salutation, which the Most Adorable Trinity sent to me and by which He raised me to the dignity of Mother of God.

“By the word Ave, which is the name for Eve, I learned that in His infinite power God had preserved me from all sin and its attendant misery that Eve had been subject to.

“The name Mary, which means ‘lady of light,’ shows that God has filled me with wisdom and light, like a shining star, to light up heaven and Earth.

“The words full of grace remind me that the Holy Spirit has showered so many graces upon me that I am able to give these graces in abundance to those who ask for them through me as Mediatrix.

“When people say The Lord is with thee, they renew the indescribable joy that was mine when the Eternal Word became incarnate in my womb.

“When you say to me blessed art thou among women, I praise Almighty God’s divine mercy, which lifted me to this exalted plane of happiness.

“And at the words blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus, the whole of heaven rejoices with me to see my Son Jesus Christ adored and glorified for having saved mankind.”

Holy Spirit Novena Day 2

~Holy Spirit Novena Day 2

SECOND DAY (Saturday, 6th Week of Easter)

Come. Father of the poor. Come, treasures which endure; Come, Light of all that live!

The Gift of Fear

The gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of hell, but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenly Father. It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God. “They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in His sight will sanctify their souls.”

Prayer

Come, O blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart, that I may set you, my Lord and God, before my face forever, help me to shun all things that can offend You, and make me worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Your Divine Majesty in heaven, where You live and reign in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God world without end. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE.

Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Act of Consecration, Prayer for the Seven Gifts

Amen.

The Novena begins on the day after the Solemnity of the Ascension, Friday of the 6th Week of Easter, even if the Solemnity of the Ascension is transferred to the 7th Sunday.

FIRST DAY (Friday after Ascension or Friday of 6th Week of Easter)

Holy Spirit! Lord of Light! From Your clear celestial height, Your pure beaming radiance give!

The Holy Spirit

Only one thing is important — eternal salvation. Only one thing, therefore, is to be feared–sin? Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love. With His sevenfold gifts He enlightens the mind, strengthens the will, and inflames the heart with love of God. To ensure our salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily, for “The Spirit helpeth our infirmity. We know not what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself asketh for us.”

Prayer

Almighty and eternal God, Who hast vouchsafed to regenerate us by water and the Holy Spirit, and hast given us forgiveness all sins, vouchsafe to send forth from heaven upon us your sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE. Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES.

Pray to Our Lady in difficult decisions

Holy Virgin, moved by the painful uncertainty we experience in seeking and acquiring the true and the good, we cast ourselves at thy feet and invoke thee under the sweet title of Mother of Good Counsel. We beseech thee: come to our aid at this moment in our worldly sojourn when the double darkness of error and of evil plot our ruin by leading minds and hearts astray. Seat of Wisdom and Star of the Sea, enlighten the victims of doubt and of error so that they may not be seduced by evil masquerading as good; strengthen them against the hostile and corrupting forces of passion and of sin. Mother of Good Counsel, obtain for us our most urgent need….. (here mention your request) and secure for us from thy Divine Son the love of virtue and the strength to choose, in doubtful and difficult situations, the course agreeable to our salvation. Supported by thy hand we shall thus journey without harm along the paths taught us by the word and example of Jesus our Savior, following the Sun of Truth and Justice in freedom and safety across the battlefield of life under the guidance of thy maternal Star, until we come at length to the harbor of salvation to enjoy with thee unalloyed and everlasting peace. Amen.
